hirty three years ago I packed up, left White Rock and moved myself

and my two children to Echo Bay, Gilford Island on the BC coast. I was following my heart. My fisherman love and I, with my children, carved out a homestead in the coastal wilderness. I hadn’t anticipated being enchanted by my new domain, but I was. Depicting all the rich diversity

of this world has occupied my attention ever since.
Through focusing on this one compelling subject I’ve explored all manner of media; watercolour, acrylic, pastel, collage and mixed media, along with various drawing tools. I’ve experimented with all manner of styles from realistic to impressionist to non-representational; and all manner of subject from vast skies, dynamic seascapes, islands and inlets to close-up detailed observations of shell, flower and sea life. I’ve explored the history, symbolism and mythology of the inhabitants of this place and painted portraits of singular characters. Nothing I can imagine is more engrossing, fascinating and mysteriously complex than this, and every single moment has been inspiring and fulfilling.
As I grew into in this unique world, I had the freedom and pressure

– a seemingly mutually exclusive mix – to learn a variety of new things, including building a house! The workshop instruction begun in White Rock metamorphosed into offering personalized ‘Art Retreats’ in painting, pottery, and writing for individuals seeking to realize their own art spirit.

I’ve become a published author with a variety of books published, Drawn to Sea and Colour the British Columbia Coast among them.
I welcome all to SeaRose Studio. Visit www.yvonnemaximchuk.com

or look me up on Facebook and Instagram. I’d love to hear from you, searosestudio@hotmail.com

FOR THE LOVE OF ART welcomes submissions from artists, artisans and fine craft persons for this second annual event, held at Harris Barn (South Delta) on Nov 2 & 3, 2019. This is the second year for this event. This is an art show and sale and not a craft fair, featuring fine art, fine craft, functional art, wearable art, etc. The shows are "gently juried" to ensure a level of quality and professionalism in the work but it is not "juried" in the sense of a competition: the variety of mediums would make that impossible and the whole intention of the event is to provide a platform for different types of artists to show and sell their work.        y early art ambitions were sidetracked by a 30-year career as a

stockbroker. Now, as a full-time artist, I use an iPad as my canvas and a stylus as my brush to create digital images that become original acrylic on canvas paintings as well as limited edition prints and art cards.

I am particularly inspired by the urban environment around me and the many great artists before me. I like to take familiar scenes and twist them around to make them my own. They generally begin as simple landscapes but along the way as details are added and deleted, they become very personal expressions of my connection to the scene. They are deceptively simple yet curiously engaging. The finished paintings are instantly recognizable but

subtly offer a quiet, thought-provoking edge. The devil is in the detail!

I love the digital medium because it allows for an abundance of experimentation, spontaneity and whimsy. I also love that I can create affordable limited edition prints from these paintings which makes it possible for more people to own and enjoy local, original art. This is important to me and adds to my creative process.

I am an award-winning member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, a partner in Vancouver’s longest running cooperative gallery, Arts Off Main, and

I actively promote the local artistic community through various organizations including serving as a board member of Artists in Our Midst and the West of Main Art Walk.

       Commissions welcome.
