THE VERNON COMMUNITY ARTS CENTRE invites submissions for their next ACNO Member Exhibit, entitled Creativity out of Chaos. Chaos and disorder often promote a high level of innovative, unconventional and original creation of ideas and products. Most recently there has been an abundance of this evidence through the pandemic as businesses restructured, or completely pivoted into new sectors. Families and friends have found creative ways to spend time with the ones they love, musicians took to the streets or performed on-line, and many organizations quickly took to technology and other mediums to reach their audiences. How has chaos brought out your own creativity? All mediums and styles of artwork are welcome, from 2D to 3D, as long as it fits the theme. Preference is given to pieces that have not been shown in the gallery before. Exhibition dates are Jan 8 to Feb 1, 2021. I have always been drawn to line and texture. This has determined my mediums of choice: pen, pencil, and coloured pencils. But not my subject matter. Forest trails and wildlife pull me to create. They are a product of my love to hike and camp. Drifting in my kayak, along the water’s edge, watching a seal teach her pup to swim, is my idea of an awesome moment. To really experience nature as it is happening is a gift, one I have enjoyed most of my life. I realize not all have had this opportunity. My mission has become one of sharing this world with my viewers.
I am a self-taught artist; I began first with pencil and pen. Later I introduced colour
with water-colour and pencil crayons. I tend to have a very analytic approach to my
art, this combined with my experience as a teacher has led me into other areas.
I teach painting and drawing classes both privately and to groups in studio settings
and outdoors, I work with artists both individually and within groups on marketing
skills, and I write. My weekly blog has been running for 12 years and focuses on
painting and drawing tips. I am also published
in a variety of art magazines, including the
International Artist Magazine. Presently,
I run an online coaching/mentoring
program for artists wanting to work on
their own projects.
