BC's Calls for Entry . . .
Editor's message regarding "COVID-19"
We are certainly experiencing extreme challenges during this COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, most Art Galleries have temporarily closed and events are being postponed or cancelled. As you read this current issue, please keep in mind many of the events and Calls listed below were submitted before the COVID-19 virus was known. Although I included last-minute changes to some of the Art Shows listed in this issue, there will be many I have missed. And, at press time, many Calls for Entry remain undetermined regarding cancellations or postponing. However, I am confident when you visit the links provided for each Call or art show, there will be updates on their websites.
Stay safe by following the recommendations of our Health Authorities. And also important, please do not panic. The panic and fear are perhaps more dangerous than the actual virus, as it puts unnecessary strain on our health care providers and even on businesses trying to keep their store shelves stocked. Those who stockpile food and supplies make it much harder for others to purchase what they may need. What would normally be a quick trip to the corner store to buy eggs or toilet paper is now a half-day trek just to find a store that has them in stock! In stressful times such as now, we should be helpful and more considerate of others.
Instead of hoarding supplies, take care of yourself: This is a more sensible way to keep busy, which helps retain a sense of control during this pandemic. Focus on maintaining and boosting your good health. Keep your immune system strong by eating healthfully and being physically active. This will help lower your risk of contracting this virus. Staying calm with methods to control your emotional response is also wise. These are probably the best preventive actions you can take. And now you can spend more time perfecting these healthy habits because you are stuck at home!
For over 40 years, my main career has been in both the Newspaper Publishing Industry and the Health & Fitness Industry. Currently,
I am a Health Columnist for several publications (and a portrait artist as a hobby). I offer you my latest health column. It provides sensible diet and lifestyle information to help reduce your risk of becoming ill.

am a landscape painter and writer based in Port Moody near Vancouver where I emigrated from
Serbia long ago. Although art was my first and true love, my parents steered me toward science
and I graduated with a BSc in Electrical Engineering, followed by a Hi-Tech career.
I’ve always known what my true life’s mission was, so I studied and made art part-time. My creative journey
has been long, windy, and wonderful. I am especially grateful to my husband who stands by me as my biggest helper and fan.
These days, I am a full-time, award-winning, gallery-represented painter with a passion for our west coast and mountains.
My chosen medium is acrylic which I have been mastering for more than fifteen years. I travel extensively through western Canada
and let the landscape burn its patterns into my mind and heart. I soak in the shapes, forms, and colours of our mountains, lakes, and
coastline, reinterpreting them in the paint.
At first glance, my work celebrates the natural beauty of Western Canada. But it also brings up its pain-points and fragility.
I am using the visual language the landscape has taught me, to converse with it. Still in awe of what it says to me, a new question
arises these days: Can these places be saved? This will be a continuous project as I keep discovering locations that beg this
question and making paintings that express my deepest feelings for this good land.
To find out more about my art and workshops check out my website www.mirkov-popovicki.com

was born in the city of Quebec, but grew up in the farm fields of Phoenix, Arizona, in the
late ’50s and ’60s. I’ve always had a creative nature, drawing and painting (by numbers in
the early days). Every teacher wrote the same note every year: I was always staring out
the window, a million miles away.
I started painting in 1976 while my ship was in dry-dock in Bremerton, WA. When
we left I had no place to paint so it took a 27-year rest. I took up my passion in 2003
focusing mostly on landscapes. I love nature and the diversity of this beautiful
planet we call home.
Many of my paintings were desert scenery and I was having trouble
getting into exhibitions. A friend suggested I start painting Canada and it did
open more doors to display my work. I have just finished my first abstracts and
may try to display them soon.
I have not been in an exhibition for some time due to health problems;
I am hoping that changes soon. Besides painting and drawing, I am working
on a novel I hope to finish someday. My
love for the Pacific North West is evident in
my paintings but I always look for a challenge.
I paint for my own enjoyment and relaxation.
I have sold some of my works but gave more than
sold. The jump from novel to professional is
difficult from my perspective so I will most likely
continue to paint for my own satisfaction. I have
half a dozen or so future projects to explore.
