ARTS ALIVE 2018 welcomes all BC artists to participate on August 18, 10-5pm. A festival of over 200 visual and performing artists. This free, family event features live musical performances, artists and artisans in a myriad of mediums, live demonstrations, a children's venue, and special performance surprises all day long. ART ON THE FARM is a free community art event in Chilliwack Aug 18, 10-4 pm. Draws hundreds of visitors each summer. This family-oriented event takes place in Columbia Valley near Cultus Lake, at the Columbia Valley Hall (indoors and outdoors). Booth fees apply. YOUR VOICE. Art! Vancouver returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre for its 4th year, April 19 to 22. Welcomes emerging artists to exhibit their artwork at this international art fair. The theme is ‘‘Ignite Your Voice.’ At a time where speaking out and being heard are perhaps more important than ever before, artists are asked to create a piece of artwork that communicates this message to the viewer. The artist is free to interpret ‘Ignite Your Voice’ however they wish - it could be a comment on wider global issues or perhaps something more personal. Submission deadline April 6, 12 pm. CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ART EXHIBITIONS AND RESIDENCES. The City of Port Coquitlam hosts exhibitions of work on a regular basis in the Michael Wright Art Gallery at Leigh Square Community Arts Village. Accepting proposals inspired by Port Coquitlam’s heritage, geography, people, social and economic development and future possibilities. The Artist in Residence program at Leigh Square Community Arts Village is based on principles of cultural development and community enrichment, and open to all visual, performing and literary artists. Artists must be committed to spending a minimum of 12 hours in the studio space provided for the tenure of their 3-month residency. THE KELOWNA ART GALLERY invites proposals for community arts projects. The selected project will be exhibited in the The Front project space of the Gallery, June 30 to Sept 9, 2018. Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby St, Vanc) presents until May 6, Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg, a major retrospective exhibition of the monumental paintings of Takashi Murakami, one of the world’s most influential artists. THE 2018 RBC CANADIAN PAINTING COMPETITION is now accepting submissions until 4 pm (EST), May 1, 2018. The RBC Canadian Painting Competition focuses on supporting artists at the early stage of their careers. More than just financial support, this program offers mentorship, exposure to audiences and more. Three regional juries comprised of experienced gallery directors, artists, curators and industry leaders select five paintings from their regions to make up the fifteen finalists, ensuring a true representation of visual artists from across the country (eastern Canada, Central Canada and Western Canada). The three juries convene for a two day deliberation where they determine one national winner and two honourable mentions from the 15 finalists. The national winner receives a purchase prize of $25,000, the two honourable mentions each receive $15,000 and the remaining 12 finalists receive $2,500 each. The top three works become part of the RBC Corporate Art Collection which holds more than 4,500 works of art collected over the past century. MOBERLY ARTS AND CULTURAL CENTRE (MACC) invites proposals from artists and groups interested in using MACC’s studio space during evening and weekend hours throughout the summer months. THE ABBOTSFORD ARTS COUNCIL invites artists to participate in The Anonymous Art Show Fundraiser held at the Kariton Art Gallery (2387 Ware Street, Abbotsford). The exhibit features art submitted anonymously by artists of all ages and skill levels to be shown and sold in a lightly juried exhibition in support of the arts. Each piece is on a 12”x12”x1.5" canvas and sold at $100. Half of the proceeds go to the artist and the remaining 50% stays with the Abbotsford Arts Council to help fund valuable programs like free community events, exhibition space, arts initiatives and much more. Purchased pieces are immediately taken off the wall and given to the purchaser. In its place, a sold tag will reveal the artist’s name. JAM IN JUBILEE 2018, presented by The Abbotsford Arts Council, welcomes all artists, crafters, local businesses, organizations and foodies to apply to take part in this year’s summer series. This is an open-air market - a venue for local artisans, crafters and foodies to sell, promote and showcase their goods. The Market runs every Thursday for 4 weeks: July 12 - Aug 2. Rental space size is 10”x10” and participants must provide their own tent, tables, chairs and self powered lighting for their area. Tent must be weighted. Power is NOT available. Registration cost is $40 per night, $100 for participation in three evenings; $120 for participation in all four evenings. Exhibitors are required to supervise their own space during hours of operation. Load-in/set up begins 4 pm. No vendor is permitted to set up before this time. No items may be left unattended. No admittance to event area after 6 pm. All vendors must remain open during the event hours. Packing-up will not be permitted until the close of the show. All vehicles must be out of the event area, following set-up, no later than 5:45 p.m. Vehicles may not re-enter event area until 10:00 pm.
