BLACKBERRY GIFT SHOP inside the Port Moody Arts Centre (2425 St. John’s Street, Port Moody) invites submissions for the Gift Shop. Participants in the Blackberry Artist Society are asked to supply 3-4 samples of art to be juried at the Society’s monthly meetings. CHILLIWACK VISUAL ARTISTS ASSOCIATION invites artists to apply to exhibit in the O’Connor Group Art Gallery. An exhibition can be by a solo artist, partnered, or a group. This is a juried process, subject to approval exhibition space will be allocated. The gallery is spacious, modern, well-lit with focusable lighting and hanging rails available at 22, 10 and 8 ft. DEEP COVE WINERY on the Saanich Peninsula offers exhibiting space for artists in their 1800 sq ft Amphora room, featuring vaulted ceilings, ample natural lighting, and a state-of-the-art marble wine bar. DEER LAKE GALLERY (Burnaby) invites submissions for 2D, 3D, and installation artwork for their 2022 exhibition program. Welcomes all artists working with all media including but not limited to painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, wood, metalwork and installation work. Photography or digital mixed media work may sell prints otherwise all other work must be original. Artists can submit individually or as part of a group. Accepted exhibitions will last between six to eight weeks with an opening reception and the opportunity to host artist talks, workshops, or meet & greet with the artist(s). DISTRICT OF SECHELT invites artists, designers and/or photographers residing on the Sunshine Coast to create original designs to be reproduced and applied to utility boxes in Sechelt. FOYER GALLERY in the Squamish Public Library (37907 2nd Avenue), welcomes submissions from artists in all disciplines for future juried monthly exhibitions. The Gallery is a contemporary space dedicated to the exhibition of excellent artwork. The gallery supports large wall works as well as smaller works suitable for display in three glass display cases. GALLERY AT THE ARTS CENTRE, Maury Young Arts Centre in Whistler, welcomes ideas and applications for group shows on an ongoing basis (group shows are preferred; however, artists may apply individually and Arts Whistler may offer the opportunity for a solo applicant to be paired with a group show). Open to all BC artists to apply. Arts Whistler is accepting proposals in every medium including painting, new media, large sculpture, fiber art, film and more from students, emerging artists, professional artists and everyone in between. The Gallery includes two secure glass display cases for exhibition purposes and two plinths. These can hold small to large size items. Large-scale sculptural work and installations will also be considered. Applications are reviewed on an on-going basis and all applications will be filed for future openings in the gallery space. GALLERY SHOP AT SEYMOUR ART GALLERY (4360 Gallant Ave, North Vancouver) invites submissions for spring 2022. Application deadline April 22, 2022. Artists are advised to visit the Gallery Shop before making a submission, to see the space and the items currently carried. The Gallery Shop is specifically looking for work that is quite different from the pieces already on display. Each of the current Gallery Shop artists has their own unique style and therefore if the submitted work is similar to work already in the shop, it is unlikely the work would be selected. KARITON GALLERY (2387 Ware St., Abbotsford) invites submissions for The Big Tiny, scheduled for the month of June. This is an open call to all BC artists. Submission deadline May 7, 2022. Submitted art can be any subject or medium but it must be on a 4″ x 4″ support, either canvas, cradled wood panel or paper. If the work is on paper, it must be framed – but the outside of the frame must not be larger than 4″ x 4″. All pieces must be labelled with the artist’s name on the back and the piece must be submitted ready to hang with D-rings and hanging wire attached. Abbotsford Arts Council members may submit up to 10 pieces. Non-members may submit up to 3 works. All pieces will be priced at the artist’s choice of either $25, $75, or $125. KIMBERLEY ARTS COUNCIL (64 Deer Park Avenue) invites young artists to apply for the Adjudicated Young Artists’ Exhibition, April 26 – May 21, held in the gallery at Kimberley Arts at Centre 64. 3 Pieces of artwork in any medium will be accepted. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place cash prizes and additional cash prizes for honourable mentions will be awarded in two categories:12 – 18 years and 19 – 29 years. KIMBERLEY ARTS COUNCIL (KAC) is accepting original art for their online art store. Accepting works from all artists, in Kimberley and beyond. Artists can sell up to 3 original art pieces in any medium for a maximum of 3 months. Admission fee $5 per art piece. Art pieces to enter the online store on the1st and 15th of each month. Submission deadlines 13th and second to last day of each month. 70% of sale price to artist, 30% of sale price towards Kimberley Arts at Centre 64 (KAC)'s visual arts programs. THE LANDMARK POP-UPTOWN GALLERY (White Rock) invites proposals from local artists for the 2022 to 2023 (Sept through Aug) seasons. THE LANGLEY ARTS COUNCIL (LAC) invites artist proposals for 2022 Solo, Duo, and Group Exhibitions. No application fees. Submission deadline May 26, 2022. Artists will be informed of the jury's decision by June 30th, 2022. The LAC is looking for new and current artwork to exhibit, therefore will not accept artwork that has already been exhibited in any of the Langley Arts Council galleries. MIND AND MATTER GALLERY invites artists to display artwork in the gallery, on a monthly basis. Bio and a few pictures of artwork are required. MUGS OF MAY – ART SHOW & SALE at the Vernon Community Arts Centre Gallery invites submissions. Deadline April 27, 2022. Welcomes “Mug” inspired paintings, photographs, ceramics, fibre, clay, metal, wood, glass, paper, etc. Mug rugs, mug cozies and coasters also welcome: There is no limit on the number of functional mugs an artist can submit. As stock sells, the shelves will be refilled. This is an opportunity for an artist to get in as many sales as possible throughout the month of May. NATIONAL OIL AND ACRYLIC PAINTERS’ SOCIETY (NOAPS) 2022 SPRING INTERNATIONAL ONLINE EXHIBITION invites submissions. Application deadline April 11, 2022. Welcomes oil and acrylic painters from across North America and International Artists to apply to this exhibit honouring the best in oil and acrylic painting. NOAPS has been showcasing the talents of oil and acrylic painters since 1991. 2022 SOOKE FINE ARTS SHOW invites all visual artists living on Vancouver Island and BC’s coastal islands to participate. Artists can submit images of up to three works online for consideration to this live, premier juried art show. The show runs from July 21 to Aug 1, 2022, at the SEAPARC Leisure Complex in Sooke. VERNON PUBLIC ART GALLERY is accepting original artwork donations for their 36th annual Midsummers Eve of The Arts (MEA) fundraiser. MEA is a benefit event put on by the Vernon Public Art Gallery each July to help raise funds for ongoing gallery exhibitions and programming. MEA will take place on July 20, 2022 (6:30 to 10 pm). By donating to this year’s Midsummer’s Eve of the Arts, artists will be investing in British Columbia's arts and culture. Application deadline June 21, 2022 (11:59 pm). No application fees. ABBOTSFORD

Fraser Valley Watermedia Society (FVWS) presents its annual Spring Art Show online from May 1 to May 31, 2022. The Show features a wide range of new watermedia paintings by local member artists including works in acrylic, watercolour, gouache, mixed media, and ink. All works will be available for purchase by sending a request to the FVWS using the Contact Us page on the website or by e-mail to fvwatermediasociety@gmail.com The show officially opens online May 1 at www.fvwatermediasociety.com/shows FVWS is a group of approximately 25 artists who in preCOVID times met weekly for meetings, workshops, and other events. For over 25 years they have presented annual art shows at the Clearbrook Library. Due to ongoing COVID restrictions, this year the annual Spring Show will again be held online. The society has also held exhibitions of their work at The Reach Gallery Museum and the Kariton Art Gallery in Abbotsford. During COVID, the members have been working online and posting artwork on the society website and Facebook page. Abbotsford Arts Council presents at the Kariton Gallery (2387 Ware St., Abbotsford), Devotion to Nature, April 7 - 23, 2022. This in-person and online exhibit features a series of paintings depicting concerns exposed by Abbotsfordians. Artist and artist-in-residence Ramirez Luis, in response to those concerns, created a series of assemblages representing nature’s generosity and what it offers us. The intention of her artwork is to encourage the viewer to protect natural resources, recognize that Abbotsford needs to adopt sustainable agriculture practices, and value and conserve green spaces (gardens) that beautify the city. Showing May 5 - 21, 2022 (in-person and online), Shadow & Line, works by Julia Martens, Amy Rebecca, and Gurjant Singh Sekhon. 

BURNABY

Burnaby Artists Guild presents their annual Spring Show, April 1- 3, 2022 at the City of Lougheed Shopping Centre. 35 artists will feature various mediums in a celebration of spring. O’Connor Group Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre (9201 Corbould St.) presents until April 2, the Federation of Canadian Artists Fraser Valley, The Power of Colour. Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave, Coquitlam) presents April 1 – May 19, 2022, Extractions: Resources Through an Artistic Lens, various mediums curated by Coquitlam Heritage Society will be on view in the Atrium. A Watercolour Experience on Canvas and Fibre, watercolours by Donna Polos will be on view in the Mezzanine. And Spontaneous Portrait Art, acrylics by Tadaomi Kawasaki will be on view in the Leonore Peyton Salon. All three exhibitions will be available to view online as of April 8, 2022. COURTENAY

L’Arche Comox Valley presents their next Art of Belonging Art Show at Rhodo’s Bistro (364 8th Street in Courtenay), until April 10, 2022. The show exhibits the watercolour work of the students during the Art of Belonging – an ongoing watercolour course offered through L’Arche. Twenty-eight people with diverse abilities participated in this class, taught by Dean Bauche. Rhodo’s Bistro is open from 8 am to 3 pm every day.

 

COWICHAN

Paintings from an ongoing series, in which the artist attempts to unpack the troubled colonial, racist church discourse of his childhood in London in the 1960s and 1970s. Reception held May 6. The Act Arts Centre (11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge) presents Goddesses: A multimedia Exploration into the Divinely Feminine, until April 9, 2022. Guest curated by Dr. Angela Clarke. Six female artists, masters of artistic media, working in ceramics, porcelain, painting, textile, prints and drawings, approach the archetypal figure of the Goddess as a means of exploring feminine stereotypes and roles. Exhibiting artists: Georgina Lohan, Suzy Birstein, Louise Solecki Weir, Anyuta Gusakova, Lilian Broca and Linda Coe. Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour on Mother’s Day weekend, returns after a two-year pandemic hiatus on May 7 and 8, 2022 (10-4 pm both days), rain or shine. This year the show features over 40 artists and 24 studio locations, with a variety of painters, potters, jewellery makers, textile and woodworkers. An opportunity for the public to see local artists in their studios. Art Focus Artists' Association's Art Show featuring original works in acrylics, oils, watercolours and mixed media by over 20 artists continues until April 23, 2022, in the Michael Wright Gallery in downtown Port Coquitlam. The Gallery is open to the public every Saturday 1 to 4 pm. Art Focus also hosts Demos by professional artists which are free and open to members of the public. Surrey Art Gallery (13750 – 88 Ave) presents Art by Surrey Elementary Students, until May 1, 2022. A biannual art exhibition organized with the Surrey School District and the Surrey Art Teachers’ Association. VHS MARKETS offers new dates for vendors: July 30 and Aug 20, 11 am – 6 pm. Held at the North Plaza of the Vancouver Art Gallery ("šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e'énk Square"). Vendor rates: Option A, $165 for 10' to display products. Each space features an ample 10' of frontage that can fit two 2'x5' tables. Option B, $295 for full tent space. Table rentals are an additional $15 (maximum 2 table rentals per vendor). Rentals must be confirmed and paid 48 hours prior to the event date. VERNON COMMUNITY ARTS CENTRE invites professional artists, who experience disability, to host a one-day workshop offering art instruction two days a week to adults living with mental and or physical challenges. Art for All is part of Joining Hands, an established program at the Vernon Community Arts Centre, offering art instruction to adults living with mental and or physical challenges. The program is a free service to all who participate giving full access to visual arts held in a community environment. Instructors share their artist journey and demonstrate their chosen medium to the program’s participants. Additional consideration will be given to artists who self-identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ2S+. The goal of this program is to help break down barriers and remove limitations for individuals with diverse and differing abilities who might want to explore a future in the arts. The workshops are tentatively scheduled for May and October but are flexible to the instructor’s schedule. There is no limitation on subject matter or medium, as long as it is suited to a classroom environment. Instructors are compensated a rate of $175 per day for attending the program between 9:30am – 3:30pm. A total of four workshops are planned for May and October with preference of securing at least two artists to share the workshops. WHITE CUBE welcomes all artists to submit work for this open call at the Benjamin Lumb Art House (BLAH) in West Vancouver. White Cube is a free for all salon offering an open platform to all artists in all stages of their careers. The exhibition will be pieced together based on the artworks submitted. Modelled on an egalitarian submission style, original artworks of all sizes, mediums and subject matter, created over the past two years may be submitted to the gallery and will hang in a salon-style mosaic. Participating artists are asked to bring up to three recently completed artworks to BLAH (1370 Marine Drive, West Vancouver) between March 25 to May 5, Mon to Thurs, 7 to 8:30 pm. The submitting artist must be present upon drop off. Artists can only submit once. THE KARITON GALLERY (Abbotsford) invites artists to participate in Figures in Motion, an exhibition showcasing art with the human figure as a primary component. RAIL TRAIL PLEIN AIR EVENT, June 12, 2022, presented by Opus Kelowna & The Arts Council of the North Okanagan, invite artists to participate. This event is free, but participants must register. Open to all ages and abilities. To register online, visit The Rail Trail Plein Air Event Registration (google.com) or register at the Vernon Community Arts Centre on the morning of the event, before heading to the trail. Artists will explore the Okanagan Rail Trail (between KM 0 and Lake Country) along Kalamalka Lake and seek a spot to paint for the day. Participants provide their own art supplies (any medium accepted). At the end of the day, artists gather at the Vernon Community Arts Centre to show their finished, and/or unfinished pieces, with light refreshments provided. TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL (Esquimalt) one-day Plein Air "Paint-In" on July 16, 2022, invites artists to participate. An original art piece must be completed in one day on July 16 by 4:00 pm. The Richmond Arts Coalition, Anigraph Productions, the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site Society, and the City of Richmond celebrate ocean-side past and present at the mouth of the river. THE BEAUMONT STUDIOS (Vancouver) is seeking emerging artists looking for funding, resources and exposure. This award is designed to showcase a diverse array of talent and help develop the next wave of creativity in Vancouver. Award winners will receive up to $2,000 in cash to support the creation, production and exhibition of their work; A show in the B1 Gallery for a minimum of three weeks; Marketing and promotional support for the artist and their exhibition; Guidance from one of the Studio experienced team members; and Networking opportunities with the Beaumont Studios 95+ residents. Who is an emerging Artist? Emerging Artists are in the early years of launching a professional career and have created and publicly presented a modest body of independent work. They are now ready for the next steps in their artistic development and representation. Entry Criteria: All applicants must Live and/or work in the greater Vancouver area, the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. They must have some training, experience or accomplishments in an artistic discipline or have an existing portfolio of work. Applicants must also not have previously accessed major funding and can commit to meeting the project timeline. ARTS COUNCIL OF LADYSMITH invites their members to submit work for West Coast Architecture. West Coast Architecture was a style of home design that came out of Vancouver in the 1940s, and its goal was to harmonize a house with its natural surroundings, but the term can also mean any building or structure situated on this special coast we call home. Of course, Indigenous hands and minds had already been shaping buildings and landscapes here for thousands of years before Vancouver existed. Artists are asked to ponder what the idea of West Coast Architecture evokes for them: A quaint cabin with a mossy roof and cedar shakes, a hippy shack made of driftwood, an elegant and modern cityscape design? Does an eagle’s nest count as “architecture”? THE DISTRICT OF SAANICH is now accepting artist submissions for their 2022 Community Canvas Mural Project, involving three mural sites in public parks. Open to mural artists and artist groups with at least one member from the Capital Regional District (including the Gulf Islands). THE CITY OF NORTH VANCOUVER, in partnership with the Squamish Nation, has contracted the Vancouver Mural Festival to facilitate the creation of a mural of Squamish Nation artworks on the walls of the Spirit Trail, at the Mosquito Creek Marina. All Squamish Nation artists interested in being considered for this project, are invited to submit their name & contact information, along with 6 images of their previous artwork to the project team on or before the June 26, 2022 deadline. Selected artists must be available to work on the development of a mural design during the month of July and to paint on-site in August. The Vancouver Mural Festival provides all materials, technical support and labour assistance needed to complete the project. The project has identified a total of $24,000 for artist fees, for up to 3 artists to work collaboratively on the creation of the mural design and for onsite painting.
