ABBOTSFORD ARTS COUNCIL offers an open call for art for the 8th Annual Anonymous Art Show Fundraiser. The exhibition will be hosted both digitally on the Abbotsford Arts Council website and in person at the Kariton Art Gallery. Art is submitted anonymously in this lightly juried exhibition. Welcomes local artists of all skill levels and ages to create works of diverse styles, subject matters, and mediums. All submitted work must be completed on an unframed 12″ x 12″ x1.5” canvas or unframed 12” x 12” x 1.5” cradled wood panel. Works on watercolour paper or photographic prints mounted to a 12″ x 12″ x 1.5″ cradled wood panel are also acceptable. Non-members are limited to one submission. AAC members may submit up to 3 pieces. Each piece displayed in the show will be sold at $100. 50% of the proceeds go right to the artist, and the remaining 50% stays with the Abbotsford Arts Council to help fund valuable programs. ABBOTSFORD ARTS COUNCIL invites submissions for an open call, Living Local exhibition, held in Aug 2022. The exhibition will be hosted both digitally on the Abbotsford Arts Council website and in person at the Kariton Art Gallery. Living Local will feature artworks depicting landscapes local to the Fraser Valley area of British Columbia. Welcomes both 2D (paintings, collage, photographs, etc) and 3D (sculpture, statue, etc) pieces of all different styles for this exhibition. Artists may submit up to three pieces for consideration. 2022 ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIONAL EXHIBITION invites representational and semi-representational artworks for this annual exhibition. ART DOWNTOWN invites artists to participate in this Vancouver event. Produced by Vancouver Visual Art Foundation (a non-profit society), Art Downtown is a Vancouver public eco-arts festival: A sixteen-week, free, community-oriented event where artists, performers and audiences gather to celebrate Vancouver’s diversity. Artists will be painting on site and conducting live art demonstrations in the open air, showcasing their artwork to the public from a covid safe distance. Live musical performances by local singers and musicians are also part of this event. The outdoor summer program is located at Lot 19, 855 West Hastings between the Terminal City Club and the Vancouver club plaza, starting July 6 and running until Sept 30, and at Jack Poole Plaza on Fridays. ARTS COUNCIL OF LADYSMITH AND DISTRICT is now booking private shows in their gallery for the fall of 2022. Two sets of dates are available: September 20 to 28, and October 25 to November 2. THE ARTISAN MARKET FOR HYCROFT FOR THE HOLIDAYS 2022 welcomes submissions from artists and artisans. The annual event will be held Nov 17 to 20, (10 – 6 pm) in the ballroom and some main floor rooms of Hycroft Mansion, home of the University Women’s Club of Vancouver (1489 McRae Avenue, Vancouver). Welcomes a variety of unique, hand-made items. Selection will be juried. BLACKBERRY GIFT SHOP inside the Port Moody Arts Centre (2425 St. John’s Street, Port Moody) invites submissions for the Gift Shop. Participants in the Blackberry Artist Society are asked to supply 3-4 samples of art to be juried at the Society’s monthly meetings. All work is by local artists and each artist takes turns working in the shop, approximately one day each month depending on the season. CHILLIWACK VISUAL ARTISTS ASSOCIATION invites artists to apply to exhibit in the O’Connor Group Art Gallery. An exhibition can be by a solo artist, partnered, or a group. This is a juried process, subject to approval exhibition space will be allocated. The gallery is spacious, modern, well-lit with focusable lighting and hanging rails available at 22, 10 and 8 ft. COWICHAN VALLEY SUMMER ART FAIR (first annual) presented by the Cowichan Valley Public Art Gallery, offers spaces for eight 10’ by 10’ tents to local artists. From July through Sept, participating artists can sell their works on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. The fair ties into the Duncan Farmers Market and will take place on the Heritage Green Door property, now owned by the Cowichan Public Art Gallery. The tents (not supplied) can house two artists, allowing artists to split the rental cost of $25 per week, per tent. To apply: E-mail three images of your artwork in jpg format to info@cowichangallery.ca. Include artist information. An insurance waiver must be signed before the festival begins. This Call is open to all local artists/groups/collectives with the selection process prioritizing artists who live and/or work in Fernwood, who experience systemic barriers to inclusion in the visual arts, who employ diverse approaches to their art. FORT GALLERY (Fort Langley) invites artists to participate in a juried open call, What We Leave Behind. Artists are asked to envision the legacies we leave to future generations: What have we inherited and what do future generations stand to inherit from us? How might viewing our current reality in light of generational time reshape our present? The Fort Gallery welcomes and encourages submissions from emerging and established artists of all abilities, ages, cultures, ethnicities, citizenships, gender identities, and races. FOYER GALLERY in the Squamish Public Library (37907 2nd Avenue), welcomes submissions from artists in all disciplines for future juried monthly exhibitions. The Arts Council of New Westminster strives to feature a variety of visual arts by a wide range of artists from the Metro Vancouver region, reflecting cultural and artistic diversity. 13TH ANNUAL GRAND PRIX PLEIN AIR CHALLENGE, Aug 6, 2022 (10 am – 2 pm), invites artists to participate in this competition in Steveston. Artists must compose, paint, complete and frame (or finish) a piece of art outdoors en plein air. All ages and skill levels welcome.  Works will be judged. Prizes, donated by Opus Art Supplies, will be awarded.  Artists have the opportunity to display and sell their paintings on-site after the competition from 3 to 7 pm. THE KARITON GALLERY (Abbotsford) welcomes exhibition proposals for the upcoming 2023 calendar season. Artists residing in BC are welcome to apply but preference will be given to artists residing in the Fraser Valley. The vision of the Kariton Art Gallery and Abbotsford Arts Council is to link artists and audiences together, to spark open dialogue, curiosity, and creative citizenship and allyship. PORT MOODY PUBLIC LIBRARY offers wall space to local artists. The library is a popular venue for first-time and more experienced artists to showcase their talents. Works displayed include watercolour, oil, mixed media, and photography. West Fine Art Show (13th Annual, Late Fall Show), will be held Sept 16-18 at Glass House Estate Winery (23449 0 Ave in South Langley). Art Focus Artists Association (AFAA) (Port Coquitlam) will host Canada Day Celebrations at Castle Park with a Children’s Table and Chalkboard Art. North Van Arts presents ‘Freighter Fascination’ by Enda Bardell, until July 25, 2022, in the District Public Library Gallery (1277 Lynn Valley Road, North Vancouver).

VERNON

Caetani Centre (Vernon) officially opens for guided and self-guided tours of its 126-year-old home, now a museum. Visitors touring the museum can learn about the historical significance of the Caetani family, whose lineage dates back to 8th Century Italy and includes popes, scholars, artists, politicians, and aristocrats. The museum houses a collection of Caetani family heirlooms including one-of-a-kind artifacts, such as 1920s haute couture designs by Coco Chanel, Madeleine Vionnet, and Jeanne Lanvin. Visitors can watch a collection of family home movies that the patriarch, Leone Caetani, filmed before he died in 1935. The clips show the family’s life in the Okanagan as well as extravagant trips they took to Europe in the 1920s. Visitors can also view more of Sveva Caetani’s artwork from her Recapitulation Series. NORTH VAN ARTS invites artists to participate in the 2022 Anonymous Art Show. Welcomes emerging and established artists working strictly on unframed and unsigned 8”x8”x1½” canvas or wood panels. This is the third year the Anonymous Art Show will be online encouraging many more people access to viewing and buying artwork. THE HEARTH GALLERY (Bowen Island Arts Council) invites artists from the Lower Mainland to participate in Still Life in Motion – A Live Art Event. Artists who are comfortable with drawing and/or painting from life and actions in front of people and in a short period of time are encouraged to apply. For one day, artists will be invited to create from a still life, with the difference that this still life will be in motion, animated, and evolving throughout the day. ARTS COUNCIL OF LADYSMITH AND DISTRICT (444 Parkhill Terrace) invite their members (and new members are welcome) to participate in their next monthly exhibition: Cobalt Blue. Cobalt blue pigment is most frequently used as a colouring agent in ceramics, jewellery, and of course, paint. Symbolically, the colour blue has a rich past. Before its widespread use, blue was often synonymous with royalty due to how costly the pigment was to produce and obtain.
